Student Counsellor

To help you get through tough times.

Katie Hendrick – Student  Counsellor

(01) 239 4650

Location: Carriglea Building

The Student Counsellor is located in the Student Services area within the Carriglea Building. As you walk through the main doors of the Carriglea building, turn right and near the end of that corridor is the student services area. As this area is the home to the Careers Service, Writing and Research Skills, Assistive Technology and general information resources, there are many reasons why you could be entering this area. So don’t be alarmed if anyone sees you walking in.

So, who comes to Student Counselling and why? Well, anyone can come and make an appointment. The only requirement is that you are currently registered with IADT. Students come from the three Academic Schools, are of all ages, and both male and female. There are many reasons why students may come to the service. It could be because they are experiencing changes in their lives that are hard to make sense of; that they have experienced a distressing event like the death of someone close; their mood (feelings) may be causing them some concern or the relationships in their lives are difficult for them to manage. These are just some reasons but remember there are no hard and fast rules.

The role of the Student Counsellor is to support students during their time in IADT. Appointments are made normally for just under 1 hour, are free and the service is confidential. From the students who have used this service, they describe what happens:

“The Counsellor talks through a problem..” “…opened up a lot of ideas that I had to think about, for the better”

“gave me new angles to look at my problem from, which led me to being happier in dealing with my problem”.

To make an appointment please either use the daily ‘drop in’ times (notice on the office door), telephone Katie, the Student Counsellor, or complete an Appointment Request Form which is available in the Student Services Area, Carriglea Building
