- Drink plenty of water
- Limit the amount of junk food, eat more fruit and veg
- Get good quality sleep
- Avoid cigarettes
- Avoid alcohol and drugs and legal highs
These never solve any problems they only exacerbate them and can actual harm your mental health and contribute to other health complications down the road.
Learn how to manage your stress
College can be a very stressful time. Know what makes you stressed? Be aware of the signs when you are stressed? How do you manage this? Practice good coping skills: use breathing techniques, relax and switch off, talk to friends and always have laughter in your life.
Surround yourself with supportive people
In life, you are the average of the five people you spend most your time with so choose wisely. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and encourage you to grow as you make your way through life. One true friend is better than 100 so called friends.
Set realistic goals for yourself while in college
Write down what you wish to achieve personally, academically and professionally while going through college. Make a plan and put steps in place to taking action to make your goals a reality. Also, celebrate each of your successes along the way.
Get involved and contribute to making society a better place.
College is a great opportunity to make new friends and try new things. There are so many clubs and societies on campus now, get involved at every stage possible. Broaden your horizons. You can also make a difference, volunteer and get involved in worthy causes. Through some of these opportunities you will end up making friends for life and having some great stories to share in years to come.
