The Student Budgeting Advice Service  is there to provide you with information about the many supports which are available to you as a student at National University of Ireland Maynooth. We offer support with budgeting for University, with managing your money, as well as advice on fees, grants, and social welfare entitlements. We also provide advice about the financial supports (internal and external) available to full-time students at  National University of Ireland Maynooth.

You’ll find a range of resources, links and information here to help you to manage your money better and enjoy life as a University student.​

The SU Welfare Officer is there for you. They are a source of listening, information and referral. If you have any issues that are causing you stress you can go to them and they will do their best to help in whatever way possible. The Welfare Officer is trained to deal with all issues and is 100% confidential so there should be no hesitation in contacting them.

The Student Counselling Service is a professional counselling service available to all registered students of NUIM.
Counselling offers an opportunity to individuals to discuss in private any issues or concerns that they feel are impacting on their academic performance or sense of personal well-being. Deciding to speak with a Counsellor can be a positive step towards making life better for you. Appointments and further information can be obtained by contacting (01) 7083554. A Drop in Service is available each day during term-time from 2.00pm to 2.30pm. This operates on first come, first served basis.

The Disability Office provides supports to all students with a disability including students who:

  • Have specific learning disabilities, such as dyslexia
  • Have significant ongoing health issues
  • Experience significant mental health difficulties
  • Have physical and mobility disabilities
  • Are blind or vision impaired
  • Are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Have disabilities such as ADD, ADHD or Asperger’s Syndrome

 

What type of support is available?
As a student, you may need support with different aspects of college life. The Disability Office co-ordinates a range of supports that you may need to use at some stage. If you are not sure if NUIM can support your particular needs, come and talk to us about what we can do to enable you to achieve your academic goals.

General information and advice about how to become a student at NUIM and what supports you may need. Needs assessment so we can find out how best we can support you in achieving your academic goals Liaison with other staff throughout the University to ensure you get the same level of service in all aspects of your life at NUIM.

Advice on financial supports including the ESF Fund for Students with Disabilities, the NUI Maynooth Disability Scholarship, the National University of Ireland Award Scheme for Students with Disabilities and more. Workshops, seminars and on-the-spot training on how to become a better learner in university. Specialist tuition for students with dyslexia. Extra tuition in your academic subjects. Access to Moodle, an online environment where you can access lecture notes, discussions, quizzes and more as well as communicate with other students and your lecturers. The Disability Support Area in Moodle which gives you round the clock access to advice, tips, news and opportunities to communicate with other students and the Disability staff.
Assistance and advice on how to best use the Library and the thousands of physical and online books and journals available

  • Academic/Personal assistant
  • Access to learning technology in the Assistive Technology Centre (ATC)
  • Screening for dyslexia
  • Referrals to other professionals such as an Educational Psychologist for further screening
  • Alternative examination arrangements
