DITSU are getting very excited about the Please Talk forum event taking place at DIT this coming Thursday August 2nd 2012.

We are nailing down the final preparations for hosting the 3rd Annual Forum event and attending will be Welfare Officers and Student Support Staff from across the Island of Ireland.  Please Talk is now present in both the south and north of Ireland having launched the PleaseTalk.org initiative with the NUS/USI team last November.  As you may be aware Please Talk celebrated 5 years last April at a ceremony attended by President Michael D. Higgins in the RCSI.
Currently DIT Students’ Union are chairing the nationwide steering committee of Please Talk on handover from the UCD Student Services and Students’ Union team.  Please Talk was founded in UCD some five years ago by students further to a number of suicides that took place in UCD.  These students began the Please Talk campaign which has established into a simply online service and brand for Welfare officers and Support staff throughout HEI’s in Ireland.
The schedule on Thursday includes a number of practical hands on sessions for the officers and staff to embed the Please Talk idea in their local campus.  The keynote speakers include: Derek Chambers from Inspire Ireland, Jerry Buttimer TD and Dr. Stephanie O’Keefe from the NOSP.

We are keen to further embed the Please Talk message at DIT for the academic year 2012/2013.  If you are a student or staff member at DIT and keen to get more involved, please get in touch with the team at DIT Students’ Union [email protected]
